To provide more convenient services and simplify administrative procedures, the Ministry of Labor has streamlined the required documents for Foreign Students, Overseas Chinese Students and Ethnic Chinese Students who apply for a work permit while studying in Taiwan. Students now only need to submit a photocopy of their passport; a copy of the student ID and other supporting documents are no longer required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Labor stated that, in order to make the work permit application process faster and more convenient, amendments have been made to the Regulations on the Permission and Administration of the Employment of Foreign Workers. Since March 23, 2018<\/strong>, applicants are no longer required to submit<\/strong> photocopy of their student ID, consent letter issued by the school or its affiliated language center, full-year transcript for language program students, and certificates of special language proficiency. Applicants only need to complete the application form and submit a photocopy of their passport. The Ministry of Labor will review applications in accordance with relevant regulations and issue work permits accordingly. It is estimated that around 40,000 international and overseas Chinese students will benefit from this measure each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ministry also emphasized that students may apply online via the EZ Work Taiwan (https:\/\/ezwp.wda.gov.tw), work permit application system for foreign professionals. The platform provides 24-hour services, including online application submission, payment, notification, and application status inquiry. After creating an account, students can enter their information, upload required documents, and complete payment to finish the application. The website offers bilingual (Chinese\u2013English) interfaces and provides a user guide for easy reference. Students are encouraged to make use of the online system, which saves mailing time and costs and is not restricted by government office hours\u2014applications can be submitted anytime, without needing to visit government offices in person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foreign students who wish to work or take internships in Taiwan\u2014whether on campus or off campus\u2014must apply for and obtain a Work Permit before starting employment. Those who work without a valid work permit may be fined NT$30,000 to NT$150,000.<\/strong> Please take note of this important requirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Foreign students, overseas Chinese students, and students from Hong Kong and Macau who are formally enrolled in degree programs may apply for a work permit immediately after enrollment. However, foreign students enrolled in language programs must complete at least one year of study before applying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
